Spartan Golf Academy Instructional Staff

Chad Kurmel, Director of Instruction, Certified PGA Member (Golf Operations & Retail)
Chad is certified in the following areas: TPI-Level 3 Golf Fitness, TPI Level 2 Golf, AimPoint Express, FlightScope, KVEST, BodiTrak and Wright Balance Level 6. Chad is committed to helping golfers improve their game through basic instruction, physical conditioning, utilizing proper equipment, a disciplined mental and emotional approach, course management and shot making skills. By having one coach to address all of these critical areas, golfers will receive valuable, specialized instruction in a customized personal golf program. Kurmel has been a PGA Professional for 20 years. He has played junior, collegiate and professional golf. Chad is currently the Volunteer Assistant Golf Coach for the Michigan State Men's Golf Team. Kurmel played in the PGA TOUR's 2007 Honda Classic and 2013 Puerto Rico Open , the 2007 Nationwide TOUR's Miccosukee Championship, the 2004, 2009, 2013, 2015 and 2017 Professional National Championships. He won the South Florida PGA Section Championship in 2012. 

Tom Kang, PGA Member
Tom is a graduate of Michigan State University and the San Diego Golf Academy. He is entering his 9th year as part of the Golf Center Staff, Fluent in Korean and a level 2 certified Jim Hardy Plane Truth instructor, Tom is a valuable addition to the instructional staff at the Golf Center.

Alex Lorencz, PGA Member
Alex joined our instructional team in 2010.  He graduated from Trine University where he was an Academic All-American and team captain of the men's golf team.  Alex brings knowledge, enthusiasm, and competitive golf experience which are helping develop golfers of all skills levels.  Since joining our team, he has given over 3,000 lessons.  With his passion for the game, he is dedicated to the success of all of his students.

Jason Edick, PGA Member

Jason is a graduate of Ferris State Universities Professional Golf Management Program.  Edick has been a PGA Professional for 14 years.  He joined Forest Akers team in August of 2017.  Prior to his arrival at MSU Jason was the General Manager and Head Golf Professional for Duck Lake Country Club.  Jason created an exiting junior camp at DLCC that attracted more than 50 youth each year to participate, and conducted many lessons for members and guests of the club. 

Pader Her, LPGA Apprentice Professional

Pader is a graduate of University of Akron with a major in Sports Management. She received a full ride scholarship to play for Division 1 Akron Women’s golf during her 4 years. Pader has helped with the First Tee in Akron along with being a part of the Spartan Golf Academy junior camps in summer 2018. She coordinated and taught junior golfers as an intern. Pader will continue to pursue her teaching career with the LPGA teaching program. Pader is in charge of all Junior Golf Programming for the Spartan Golf Academy.
